“Working with the American Muslim Community”
Audience: Law Enforcement Officers

This course provides information that will enhance law enforcement professional skills in interacting (i.e. interviewing, gathering information, etc.) with members and institutions of the American Muslim community. The training is designed to address prejudice, protocols in interaction, and building cooperative relationships.

Topics will include:

  • Cultural Competency in Law Enforcement
  • Common Perceptions of Muslims, Sources, Consequences & Impact on the Community
  • Islam & Muslim Culture, Demographics and Characteristics of Muslim Americans
  • Overview of the Contemporary Muslim World and Political Islam
  • Suggested Protocols for Interaction with Muslims and Islamic institutions
  • Opportunities for Cooperation Between Local Muslims and Law Enforcement Agencies
